Shoutout: UW "Calling Bullshit" Course. And Book!

Updated: May 24, 2020

I fully believe in working smarter, not harder, so when there's an incredible source already out there on the internet, I'm going to promote it, not reinvent the wheel.

"Calling Bullshit in the Age of Big Data" is a course designed and taught by Dr. Carl Bergstrom and Dr. Jevin West at the University of Washington (INFO 270 / BIOL 270). It was first taught in 2017, and there have been a few iterations since then. These generous professors put up their syllabus, readings, and even lectures, so that we all can learn how to spot bullshit and refute it in the age of Twitter, Facebook, and Google.

Here's the syllabus with relevant topics and course readings:

And here are the course lectures:

Here are important tools and tricks:

And finally, a group of case studies that let you test your BS detector:

Oh, and there's a book coming out in August! I've already purchased a copy. Review to come! "So read up, think carefully, and call bullshit yourself."
